New To Hacksaw Forum

On becoming a Hacksaw Member, you gain access to the Hacksaw Online Forum. While the Hacksaw Forum is public, only Hacksaw Members can post and interact with other members.

The Hacksaw Forum uses your email address to identify you through a Google account. If your Hacksaw registered email address is a Gmail account Eg. {username}, Google G Suite account or your email currently has access to other Google products like Analytics, YouTube and Google My Business, you are ready to go.

Creating A Google Account

This step-by-step walk-through, shows you how to use your current email address to create a Google account.

1. Open in your web browser and click the blue Sign in button, top right.

2. Next click the “Create Account” link below the sign in box for a new Google Account and sign up “For myself” when prompted.

3. On the “Create Your Google Account” form, enter you First and Last Name.

4. Now select “Use my current email address instead” link and enter your current email address in the field above..

5. Add a password for your new Google Account and press “Next”.

6. You’ll be asked to agree with Google’s Privacy Terms. Once done, confirm your account by following the instructions sent to your email address.

That’s it! You’ve officially linked your current email so that you can access the Hacksaw Forum at

Your default email notification is "Daily Summary" but can be change to other levels including "None"

Hacksaw members by default are added to the Hacksaw Forum. However we understand it is not for everyone so you can unsubscribe.

Personal Preferences Settings

Membership and email settings - We recommend that you update your Profile and add a username or use a nickname along with a photo.

My Global Settings - Contact setting for the Hacksaw Forum and any other groups that you are a member off.

My topic email subscription - Within the forum you can Link (subscribe) to follow a topic and receive email notifications. This page allows you to manage subscribe topics.

To add a Topic to your subscription list - Open the topic and under the topic title there is a small drop down arrow to subscribe or link.

Settings (Gear Icon)

Enables you to select how content is displayed for you and help.

Creating a Post

New Discussion

Topic Post can be either "Start a Discussion" (default) or "Ask a Question". The only difference is icon (Quote mark v's Question mark)

Things to keep in mind:

  • Short concise subjects (Maximum of 80 characters) Eg “Connecting DC Motors to Arduino”
  • Keep message on Subject. Eg “I would like to know how to build a circuit to power a 2 Amp 12V DC motor while being controlled by an Arduino to turn off and on.”
  • Consider photos or images size to avoid up and down loading speed issues.
  • Do not post large portions of copyright material. Use "Add a reference" and where possible credit the source and / or creator.
  • Keep to the default fonts and size. Use other fonts and sizes in longer replies to mark out sections.
  • Code should be selected and formatted using the { } formatting option.
  • If replying, avoid “Quote Original” unless you intent to modify part or quote small sections for clarity.
  • New Post to have one to five Tags. Tags are searchable keywords that appear next to each post. Use existing Tag and only add a new Tags if absolutely necessary. Note : Tags do not contain spaces so “Raspberry Pi” must be entered as “RaspberryPi”

No Spam - All automated messages, advertisements, and links to inappropriate websites will be deleted immediately. Hacksaw Membership may be terminated if warnings are not observed.

Relevance - The Hacksaw forum is around the use and creation of technology. Post not relevant shall be consider as Spam

Post in relevant topics only - Messages posted in the wrong topic area will be removed or placed in the correct topics by moderators.

Respect other users - No flaming or abusing fellow forum members. Users who post inflammatory, abusive comments will be removed from the forum and Hacksaw membership terminated.

Harassment - Threats or harassment of other users will not be tolerated. Any instance of threatening or harassing behaviour will result in the removal from the forum and Hacksaw membership terminated.

Adult content - No profanity or pornography is allowed. Posts containing adult material will be deleted and Hacksaw membership terminated.

Bandwidth - All images or photos must be sized appropriately. Posts containing over-sized images will be removed.

Illegal content - No re-posting of copyrighted materials or other illegal content is allowed. Any posts containing illegal content or copyrighted materials will be deleted.
